With a sound that’s equal parts brooding, ethereal, and downright addictive, The Recreation need to be heard rather than summarised. The band draws influence from a huge melting pot of artists, including The Walkmen, Big Thief, Fontaines DC, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley, Love, Songs:Ohia, The Beatles, the list goes on… But they’re not content to simply mimic their sources. Instead, The Recreation fearlessly blend a sonic smorgasbord of inspirations into something truly unique. Their debut album ‘Some Things Do Change, Some Things Don’t Change.’ produced by Dean Glover at VIBE Studios, is the perfect example of that. With 11+2 tracks that explore the tension between contentment and restlessness, this album is a sonic journey of emotions that will leave you breathless and craving more.
Not willing to rest on their laurels, they furthered their enquiries into the beauty of change, with anthemic single ‘Jesus’ finding its way to streaming services before the year was out. This set the ball rolling for the new year to be their biggest yet; kicked off with ‘Lilo’, released 1st February. Here, The Rec delve into the fleeting nature of success and the consequences of yielding to societal pressures, whilst setting a not-seen-before pace leaving their 2024 live show as one that’s not to be missed.
So, if you’re ready for a cathartic release, The Recreation are here to welcome you with open arms.
