Manchester’s URF are proof that the female (shoe)gaze is alive and kicking – providing their listeners with a luxurious textured soundscape that seamlessly shifts in the blink of an eye. Their innovative blend of veracious lyricism, thudding bass lines and powerful drums juxtapose with a wave of sweeping keys, spiralling guitars and soaring vocals which elevate URF’s serine ambience to a higher plane altogether. The band’s roots can be seen in their wide variety of influences in everything from: Slowdive, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Black Angels to Suede, Beach House and The Cure. With a history spanning little over a year, the band have not only been able to carefully craft an instantly recognisable sound but have also managed to independently release single Athena and 2018’s For the Ride EP – which only beings to explore a mere fraction of their vast, infectious sound.
